Opening Title: How safe is a true Gleason 6?
Well I’ve spoken with many people on active surveillance and I’ve spoken to a lot of people who should have been on active surveillance, but got surgery and radiation instead for Gleason 6 disease. Active surveillance is excellent for Gleason 6 because it does not metasticize. And Dr. Klotz, Dr. Laurence Klotz out of Sunnybrook Medical Center in Toronto, is the father of active surveillance in North America and Dr. Klotz believes that any Gleason 3 or Gleason 6 tumor that is one centimeter or less is probably not even worth worrying about. He doesn’t even feel like that’s even cancer. And doctor Snuffy Meyers agrees. None of these lesions tend to metastasize, literally none, also, if you get past about 2 or 3 years with the Gleason 6, the chances are it’s not going to progress to Gleason 7
